The two firms also agreed to port the Teknekron's MarketSheet family of applications to NEXTSTEP, NeXT's object-oriented software in response to customer demand. With the TIB port, expected to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of this year, the two companies hope to create a substantially improved environment for the rapid development of distributed, object-oriented applications. "We think highly of Teknekron's innovative TIB platform, and coupled with NEXTSTEP it offers an unprecedented solution to the financial markets and beyond," said Steven P. Jobs, chairman and CEO of NeXT Computer, Inc. "The outcome of Teknekron and NeXT working closely together is clearly greater than the sum of the parts." Object technology enhances financial information distribution Teknekron Software Systems is a leading software systems integrator in the financial and semiconductor manufacturing industries where Teknekron's TIB data distribution platform has become a defacto standard. Programmers worldwide have used the TIB platform in building their risk and portfolio management, order processing and data display applications. Customers, Teknekron and third party developers will now be able to take advantage of NEXTSTEP's object-oriented environment and rapid development tools. "Object-orientation is profoundly changing the way information is distributed in today's financial institutions," said Vivek Ranadive, president of Teknekron Software Systems, Inc. "Our clients want proven, reliable technologies that can help them leverage their internal expertise. We believe NEXTSTEP/OpenStep provides the tools they need to efficiently build their next generation of financial applications." Object-oriented programming allows business practices and procedures to be coded as stand alone software components. These objects are then combined to build mission critical applications and stored for reuse in future applications. Historically, these applications were demand-driven which meant that a user had to ask each time for information. The addition of the TIB's event-driven framework automatically brings new information to the user as events unfold through intelligent filters the user describes in advance. This means that applications can publish and consume information without human intervention. "Teknekron simplifies our desktop solution by bridging PC, Unix and object-oriented technologies," said John Keazirian, executive vice president, Information Technology at NationsBanc-CRT. "The Teknekron architecture combined with NEXTSTEP will provide a seamless integration of these two strategic technologies. This complementary and powerful relationship will result in an enhanced ability to respond quickly to the demands of the financial marketplace." About Teknekron Software Systems, Inc.
